As is often repeated- we are in this together and the only way through this is together.
Coming together with a collective imagination is our most important and powerful tool for positive change. Music and the arts have a vital role to play in building social sustainability and resilience in face of ongoing and escalating climate related issues.
The underlying philosophy of “For all Earthkind” is that music gives the people of the world a reason to come together. Music has always accompanied human ceremony and ritual marking important moments of shared significance. The destabilisation of our planets life supporting eco- systems is certainly such a time.
In making a musical moment globally together for climate, we demonstrate our ability to collaborate and find strength in our differences- coordinating a diverse range of textures and sounds into something more powerful together- than the individual parts.
We could use this event based framework as an annual occasion to build all sorts of local targets and unified thinking around the way our species can better live on the planet.
"I suggest that what we call music provided humans with unique cognitive and emotional satisfactions that require the cooperation of others and may supercede the narrow self-interest that characterizes so many behaviors of humans and other animals." - Ellen Dissanayake, Evolutionary Theorist of the Arts
