TOMORROW’S SUN
(Survivors pledge)
Phase#2 Song– VOCALS mix
ARTISTIC INTENTION:
'Tomorrowโs Sun' expresses the unspoken yet palpable disquiet Australia felt as a nation during the Black Summer Fires of 2019โ2020. No one was untouched by their extraordinary scale. We felt the need to make a space to collectively acknowledge the loss of habitat and animal life, and to share a sense of reckoning, questioning, and renewed resolve.
We drew inspiration from multi-species justice professor Dr Danielle Celermajerโs book 'Summertime', and from the simple lyricism of Eric Bogleโs 'And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda.' Yet it is Waanyi writer Alexis Wrightโs Eulogy for the Animals that most closely mirrors the spirit of this song:
โWe cannot be guided by an ethos of neglect, brokenness of heart, misery of spirit that will lead us into a future world devoid of joy. The worldโs combined humanity must sing the planet up with careful songs, songs of responsibility and respect.โ
The video concludes with a postscript: a healing of country written and performed in Sydney by William Barton and Vรฉronique Serret, accompanied by an improvised dance from Waanega Blanco in Melbourne.
